Previous studies on Perceived Job Performance (PJP) have focussed almost entirely on organizational settings different from the library. Furthermore, the studies did not investigate how the pertinent variables of Cyber Loafing (CL) and Innovative Work Behavior (IWB) predict PJP of the organizational workers. This study, therefore, was designed to examine CL and IWB as predictors of PJP of the personnel of some university libraries in Nigeria. Theories of Reasoned Action and Job Performance anchored the study, while the survey design of (...) correlational type was adopted. The study population comprised the 96 professional librarians and 95 library officers in the 12 university libraries in Ogun State, Nigeria, giving a total of 191 library personnel. Total enumeration method was used to capture the entire library personnel. The instruments used were CL (α=0.71), IWB (α=0.78), and PJP (α=0.78) scales. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson’s product moment correlation and Multiple regression at 0.05 level of significance. The perceived job performance of the library personnel was average; the major reasons for which they engaged in cyber loafing bothered on their professional development, while their innovative work behavior was fair. The CL (r=0.32) and IWB (r=0.21) had significant relationships with PJP. The CL and IWB jointly predicted PJP (F(2;156)=10.54; Adj.R2=0.108), accounting for 11.0% of its variance. The CL (β=0.26) and IWB (β=0.13) relatively contributed to PJP. Cyber loafing and innovative work behavior influenced library personnel’s job performance in universities in Ogun State, Nigeria. These factors should be considered for improved job performance among library personnel in universities. In 2017, Abigail Phillips, a postdoctoral fellow at Utah State University wrote, “The role of empathy in the library has been infrequently researched in library and information science (LIS) literature. However, as demonstrated in the reactions of libraries and librarians during recent social movements, empathy is a critical component of librarianship and routine library work” (Phillips 1). This study aims to understand the services and web-based library resources of Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) libraries. Each library included in the study has a specific webpage and provides standard library information. The content characteristics of the websites of the top five Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) libraries, according to the NIRF ranking 2023, are assessed in this study. We create a systematic checklist to achieve the study's goals, utilizing the availability of literature. The study focuses primarily on the (...) webpages of the selected IIT libraries, examining aspects such as webpage framework, style, layout, library services, and content. It explores how the IIT Library system employs rankings, services, print and electronic resources, and library technology solutions to support its users. The observational approach is utilized as the primary research method for this study. The study indicates that IITs have satisfactory web-based tools and services. Search and advanced search tools are implemented in almost all libraries, allowing users to browse available resources. Furthermore, every library website features hyperlinks to institutional repositories and open-access content. Based on the overall assessment, the IIT Delhi library website obtains the highest rating (77%), while the IIT Madras library website scores the lowest (60%) among the selected IIT libraries. The study suggests that these libraries should transition to the next level of high-tech services, such as dynamic websites, social media networks, and mobile applications, to meet the needs of young and emerging minds. Unarguably, the social media has brought the world together in an online space and as a result of this, extremist groups utilise the social media to radicalise people especially the youths who are vulnerable and fancy their ideology towards their cause. The paper was underpinned on public sphere theory and the desk research method was employed in the course of the study. It was revealed that social media plays a tremendous role towards radicalisation and extremism. The need for digital literacy, (...) where rules can be made to assist individuals of all ages in developing critical thinking skills and building resilience to violent extremist and terrorist contents online, was one of the solutions suggested to stop it. Positive steps include developing tactics that aim to oppose extremist narratives and propaganda by creating counter-contents and planning tactics that can be used to restrict, filter, take-down, or censor extremist social media contents. It was concluded that radicalisation and extremism have been on a steady increase as a result of the ever present social media that has greatly contributed in the process of radicalisation and extremism. The study investigates lecturers’ skills to evaluate information and use information effectively as correlates of digital library resources utilization in Nigeria. Research questions were, what is the correlation between lecturers’ skills to evaluate information and digital library resources utilization in Southern Nigeria? and what is the correlation between lecturers’ skills to use information effectively and digital library resources utilization in Southern Nigeria? The two hypotheses are: Ho 1: Lecturers' skill to evaluate information does not have a significant relationship with the (...) utilization of digital library resources. Ho 2: Lecturers' skill to use information effectively does not have a significant relationship with the utilization of digital library resources. The study applied a correlational research design. Six thousand six hundred fifty-three lecturers comprise the study population, and a proportionate stratified random sampling technique was used to sample 665 lecturers. Questionnaire and cognitive tests were used to elicit information from respondents. The internal reliability was 0.81, 0.75 and 0.64, respectively, established through Cronbach Alpha for the questionnaire (digital resources utilization) and Kuder- Richardson for the cognitive test (skills to evaluate and use information effectively). Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient was used to analyze the data and P-value to ascertain the significance level at 0.05 Alpha. Results revealed a very low positive correlation between skills to evaluate and use information effectively in digital library resources utilization. The study rejected the hypotheses, indicating a significant relationship between skills to evaluate, use information effectively, and utilize digital library resources. (shrink)

The study explores the ICT usage and computer skills of Library and Information Science (LIS) students in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. The main objective of the study is to assess the potentials and challenges faced by LIS students in e-learning. The researchers used survey method with a structured questionnaire, involving 209 participants from two leading public universities (University of Dhaka (DU) and Noakhali Science and Technology University (NSTU) in Bangladesh. Access to relevant information is crucial for Art and Design students to meet their information needs and achieve their educational goals and expand their knowledge base. This paper explores the information needs, and sources of information, of Art and Design students in diploma – awarding institutions in Uganda. This is part of a PhD study that investigated the information-seeking behaviour of Art and Design students in diploma-awarding institutions in Uganda. The study population comprised Art and Design diploma students in the (...) four Art and Design diploma-awarding institutions in Uganda, library heads in the same institutions, and directors at National Council for Higher Education. Data was collected using questionnaire, interview, and observation methods. Quantitative data was analysed using the SPSS whereas qualitative data was analysed thematically. The study found that the information needs of the students are primarily related to art and design tasks. The most needed information included information on employment opportunities in the art and design industry, information on production materials for art and design products, information on tools and equipment for art and design products, information on art markets and sales for art and design products, information on production techniques for art and design products, information on computer graphic design programs, and information on art and design industries for internship placements. In this study, chief librarians in the Province of South Cotabato were asked to assess the mediating role that transformational leadership played in the relationship between job satisfaction and quality of work-life. This work used descriptive correlational and mediation techniques in a non-experimental quantitative research design. The researcher questionnaires utilized in the research were adjusted to the goals of the investigation. Through stratified sampling, 83 librarians were chosen to participate in the survey. The statistical techniques used to analyze and interpret (...) the data are mean and Pearson's r. The researcher utilized Google Forms, an online survey tool, to collect the necessary information. According to the findings, chief librarians demonstrated high levels of leadership transformation, quality of work-life, and job satisfaction. The results also showed that job satisfaction and quality of work-life, as well as job satisfaction and transformational leadership, and transformational leadership and quality of work-life, all had significant relationships. This study systematically analysed the adoption of innovative technologies in the provision of electronic information services in public university libraries in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. It adopted the descriptive survey design with three specific objectives. The population of the study consisted of eighty-nine (89) librarians and library officers from Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU) and University of Uyo (UNIUYO) libraries. The census sampling technique was adopted in the study. Data for the study were collected using structured questionnaire with a reliability (...) index of 0.79 using Cronbach Alpha reliability coefficient. The data collected were analysed using descriptive statistics of percentage counts, mean scores and standard deviation. The study revealed that though innovative technologies have strong implications in ensuring the ease of providing electronic information services, but the types of innovative technologies available for use in public university libraries in Akwa Ibom State was inadequate, and the level of adoption was low. The study showed that computers (desktops and laptops), Internet, library websites and projectors are the only innovative technologies available in the libraries. It revealed that innovative technologies are useful in dealing with the ever-growing complexity of information services, access to electronic information services, time saving in providing information services, efficient acquisition services, etc. The study found that poor internet connectivity, inadequate innovative technologies, inadequate skills for the use of innovative technologies by librarians, inadequate funding of public university libraries, poor training of librarians to acquire requisite skills, etc., are the major challenges militating against the adoption of innovative technologies in the provision of electronic information services in public university libraries. The study recommended among other measures, that management of public universities should provide adequate funds, and internet connection, while the public university libraries should train and retrain staff to improve their skills and competencies on the use of innovative technologies for electronic information services provision to users. The study investigated registration status, reading interest level, and library use habits of teaching staff in Akwa Ibom State University, Nigeria. The study adopted survey research design, with a total population of 467 teaching staff from eight (8) academic faculties. Out of the total study population, a sample of 212 was selected using an online sample calculator known as Survey Monkey Sample Size Calculator at 95% confidence level and confidence interval of 5%. The instrument used for data collection was a (...) researcher-developed questionnaire, which was subjected to face and content validity and reliability coefficient of 0.80 using Cronbach’s Alpha technique. The data collected were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. The quantitative analysis made use of the descriptive statistics in form of frequency and percentage counts, mean scores and standard deviation, while the qualitative analysis relied on relevant subjective headings to validate the results of the quantitative analysis. The study revealed that majority of the teaching staff in AKSU are not registered in AKSU library as at the time of this research. It showed the major reasons for their non-registration in library to include: lack of interest in using the library, lack of awareness of the registration, distance to the library, adequate personal reading materials, lack of attractive library physical environment, etc. The study revealed that the overall reading interest level of the teaching staff was high, as majority of them are interested in both print and non-print resources. It also showed that the overall rate of library use habit of the teaching staff was low. It finally concluded that though the reading interest level of the teaching staff of the university is high, but the overall rate of registration and library use habit among the lecturers is very low, indicating a serious danger to the quality of teaching and to a larger extent, the academic performance of the students. Thus, it was recommended among other measures that management of the university should build a state-of-the-art university library with modern facilities such as air conditioning, constant internet services, and proper lighting systems to provide conducive reading space and atmosphere for the teaching staff. This article distinguishes between a philosophy and a theory of reference services. Philosophy explores why practitioners do something, whereas theory explores the actual practice without necessarily reflecting on the why behind it. The authors argue that a personal philosophy of reference services is needed, as librarians’ values ultimately drive the reference services they provide. Much of the current literature on this topic explores theories of reference services as opposed to the philosophies behind them. Purpose The study examined the cataloging and classification training of users in library and information science and their use of library catalogs at the Kwara State University Library, Nigeria. Training is a vital necessity for performing any professional responsibility. Therefore, the trainee's actions towards the training program cannot be affected. Design/methodology/approach The study adopted a descriptive research approach. It surveyed a sample of 250 university library users selected from a population of 515 through random sampling. Science users at Kwara State University Library, Nigeria, have a negative perception of the practical study of cataloging and classification as a course of study and a weak inclination toward using library catalogs. Scheme tools available for practical cataloging and classification are Dewey, Library of Congress Classification, and Sears List of Subject Headings, Anglo-American Cataloguing Rule, and Catalog Cards. Users in library and information science have the cataloging and classification skills and artifacts they have acquired from practical training, but some of their problems in studying cataloging and classification include the lack of a cataloging and classification laboratory, insufficient indexing and classification tools, and insufficient time allocated for study. Practical learning of cataloging and classification, insufficient cataloging and classification textbook materials to guide users, and outdated practical catalog and classification tools used by professional catalogers. The study investigated the awareness and utilization of electronic databases by university undergraduates in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. It adopted a descriptive survey design with a study population of 1,116 registered undergraduates-users of Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU) library and Ritman University Library. 224 undergraduates were selected using the proportionate stratified sampling technique. Observation checklist, structured questionnaire and unstructured interview were used to collect data for the study. 224 copies of the questionnaire were distributed, but 186 copies were completed and (...) retrieved. The data collected were analyzed using frequency count, simple percentage, mean scores and standard deviations, with a criterion mean of 2.50. The study revealed that HINARI, EBSCOHOST, JSTOR, Science Direct, AGORA, AJOL, OARE, ARDI, and GOALI are available in the university libraries studied. It revealed a very low extent of awareness and utilization of electronic databases. It found that the major problems associated with the awareness and utilization of electronic databases by the undergraduates include: lack of adequate awareness of available electronic databases, erratic power supply, poor search and retrieval skills, poor Internet connectivity and access, inadequate electronic databases in relevant fields of studies, etc. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended among other measures, that the management of universities should provide adequate funds for university libraries to subscribe to more relevant and useful electronic databases across various academic disciplines, and provide adequate infrastructure such as constant power supply and internet bandwidth to university libraries. Objective: Governments consistently aim to enhance services and establish online connections to efficiently deliver necessary information. This study aims to evaluate the future potential of digital libraries in public libraries in Pakistan by examining various projects that have introduced innovative approaches to foster the development of digital library services. Methodology: The analysis utilized the Amos 24 version, employing the Structural Equation Model (SEM) for assessing model fit indices and validating hypotheses. Additionally, Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 24 was (...) employed for Pearson correlation and factor analysis. Findings: The results suggest the appropriateness of discussing three out of the seven elements/factors used to assess competence improvement. The study reveals that public library managers can offer both physical and online workshops to community members, addressing emotional management for customers, including children and adults, during post-crisis information retrieval. Practical Implications: The study on public library user literacy skills, user behavior, and digital resources and services integrates the exploration and development of online databases to address challenges faced by public library management and users amidst the information explosion in academic and research activities. This research investigates the information-seeking behaviors, challenges, and preferences of woman students in the social science departments at The University of Burdwan. Employing a mixed-methods approach, data was collected from 180 students through online interactions, direct communication, interviews, and questionnaires. The study delves into library visitation frequencies, motivations, internet access sources, tools used in dissertation work, and satisfaction levels with digital information sources. Findings provide valuable insights into optimizing information resources and services for a diverse student population.

The Indian higher education system is the third largest education system in the world, however, no Indian universities have been found in the list of top 100 universities in the world. The Government of India has taken several initiatives to improve the quality of education in India and its ranking position so that Indian universities improve their quality and provide the best quality education and research. NIRF is one such initiative. As per NIRF, all the HEIs are evaluated on the (...) basis of certain stipulated performance of parameters score, such as ’Quantitative Research (QNR)’, ’Qualitative Research (QLR)’, ’Students and Faculty Contribution (SFC)’, ’Outreach and Inclusivity (OI)’, ’Peer Perception (PR)’. Accordingly, HEIs are to publicize their academic and research performance to their prospective students and employers. This study aims to trace out the impact of the top six HEIs from WB among the top 50 ranked HEIs results established in the year 2021 under the research category on the performance of parameters and sub-parameters and evaluate the score of research publications, citation, h-index, and another sub-parameter score of the respective HEIs. There are a few HEIs who secured relatively much less ratings below the overall performance of parameters and sub-parameters however secured pretty preferred rank and vice-versa. Furthermore, this study suggests stimulating appropriate strategies that would help the Indian HEIs to enhance their teaching and learning process, education quality and research, and so that their performance and ranking are improved. The study was designed to assess the implementation of information and communication technology (ICT) tools among library educators in tertiary institutions in Anambra state. A descriptive survey research design was used. The sample population comprised of 50 library educators selected randomly from 5 tertiary institutions in Anambra state which are Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Federal Polytechnic Oko, Pauls University Awka, Federal College of Education (T) Umunze, and Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Igbariam. A structured questionnaire was used for collection of data (...) for this study. Data collected from the study were analyzed using mean scores. The study found that tertiary institutions in Anambra state have ICT tools such as PowerPoint, Moodle, Blackboard, Canvas, Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, Google Docs, Microsoft Teams, and Quizizz. The level of implementation of ICT tools by library educators in tertiary institutions in Anambra state is low on majority of the ICT tools. The impact of implementation of ICT tools among library educators in tertiary institutions in Anambra state were that it will lead to improved engagement with ICT tools, flexibility of ICT tools, enables personalization of media contents, among others. The challenges to implementation of ICT tools among library educators in tertiary institutions in Anambra state are that some library educators and students are not proficient in using ICT tools, insufficiency of ICT tools and infrastructure, erratic power supply, lack of technical support to use ICT tools, among others. The study concluded that the implementation of ICT tools by library educators in tertiary institution has emerged as a pivotal endeavor with far-reaching implications. The poor and low implementation of various ICT tools will significantly affect the learning experiences of students in tertiary institution. The study recommended that Library educators and students in tertiary institution should have access to continuous professional development opportunities on how to use ICT tools so as to enhance their knowledge and skills. Vidyasagar University, named after Pandit Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar was established as a state university in 1981. This university is known for research excellence in fields like science and technology, besides other branches of social sciences. This paper attempts to analyse the research collaboration among the faculty members of Vidyasagar University during 1998 to 2022 through bibliometric analysis. To this end, the paper extracted the data from Scopus database for the publications of the faculty members of Vidyasagar University during the said (...) period. To analyse the data and visualise the research aspects Bibliometrix R package, Bibexcel, MS Excel and VOSviewer were used. The study showed that, the total number of publications during the period was 4824 with an average of 1.36 authors per publication. The faculty members of Vidyasagar University exhibited a high degree of collaboration with a collaboration index of 0.94. The study concludes that the faculty members of Vidyasagar University have shown remarkable research collaboration and enabled the university to achieve a considerable degree of research excellence. The study investigated the creativity of librarians as determinant of job performance in some selected polytechnic libraries in Delta State. The study adopted a descriptive survey using questionnaire to collect data. The population of the study consists of 45 librarians. A total of 45 questionnaires were distributed only 33 were retrieved using descriptive statistics, the mean and percentage of the data were calculated. A mean score of 2.5 or above and a percentage score of 50% were taken into consideration. The study further affirmed the effects of creativity on the job performance of librarians in some selected polytechnic libraries in Delta state as it help to boost self-esteem, it foster organizational growth, it provide a sense of purpose and fulfillment, it reduces stress and improve mental health and it increases feelings of happiness and contentment. The paper investigates the information needs and seeking behaviour of health workers in the rural areas in Benue state Nigeria. Three research questions guided the study. A descriptive survey design was adopted for the study. A total of four hundred and twenty-two (423) health workers with a sample of two hundred and six (206) health workers from general hospitals in 23 Local Governments Areas in Benue state was used for the study. The questionnaire was used as an instrument for data (...) collection. Data collected was analyzed using descriptive statistics of mean and standard deviation. A mean score cut-off point of 2.50 was used to determine a positive response. The study's findings revealed that Information on health workers, information on improvement of knowledge in health workers, information on how to support lifelong learning, and information on occupational hazards, among others, are the type of information needs of health workers in rural areas in Benue State. The use of the Internet, medical journals, nursing colleagues, consulting of doctors’ colleagues, medical libraries, and electronic databases like Cenahlete, amongst others are the channels of information provision for health workers in rural areas in Benue State. Lack of internet access, inadequate training of medical practitioners in the use of information, lack of current resources in the medical libraries, inadequate research on user study to identify information needs of health practitioners, and inadequate training of library and information professionals, are the constraints affecting information needs and seeking behaviour of health workers in rural areas in Benue State. The study recommended that the Information needs of health workers should be addressed to enable them to have access to information that will aid them, Channels of meeting the information needs of health workers for the treatment of disease should be made available by the government, health care centers, privates and well-meaning individuals as well as adequately equip with information resources to increase rural health workers access to information for treatment patients in rural areas. The government through the Ministry of Health, health care centers, and other relevant stakeholders should address the various constraints affecting information needs of health workers for the patients in rural areas in Benue state. This study investigated the preservation practices selected teacher colleges of education libraries in Ghana. The study examined the existence of preservation policies in the teacher college libraries, preservation techniques in place, level of training given to library staff on preservation and barriers to effective preservation of information resources in the teacher college libraries. The study adopted a survey research design and the instruments used were structured questionnaire administered to forty-four (44) library personnel in six teacher colleges of education in Ghana. (...) The population of the study consisted of para-professional and professional librarians. Descriptive statistics methods were used to analyse the collected data. Findings from the study revealed that there were existence of preservation policies in the teacher college libraries but and they were sometimes used to guide preservation activities in the libraries. Regular checking of materials, proper handling of materials and periodic fumigations were the frequently used techniques in preserving library materials in the selected college libraries. The level of staff training given on preservation of information resources. Orientations, seminars, conferences, and workshops were used to train staff on preservation of library materials. The major barriers to preservation of library materials included inadequate funding, funding, inadequate infrastructure for preservation, lack of preservation equipment and negative attitude of some staff and users, lack of support of management towards preservation and lack of skilled manpower. The following recommendations were provided by the researchers: staff of the college libraries be given adequate training and education on preservation practices, management should provide funding support to the libraries and finally, the preservation policies of the libraries should always be used to guide preservation activities in the libraries. Undergraduates access electronic information resources for academic activities, however, this comes with abiding by good ethical behavior such as a negative attitude towards plagiarism. Literature have reported undergraduates’ negative or positive attitude towards plagiarism in Nigeria, but few studies have been carried out in Oyo State and have not investigated how access to electronic information resources influence attitude towards plagiarism. Therefore, this study examined access to Electronic Information Resources (EIR) and Attitude towards Plagiarism (ATP) by undergraduates in Faculty of Science (...) in three universities in Oyo state, Nigeria. The descriptive survey design of the correlational type was adopted for this study. The population comprised 10,664 undergraduates from Faculty of Science in Universities of Ibadan (UI) Lead City University (LCU) and Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH). A two-stage random sampling technique was adopted to draw 336 respondents. Data was collected using a questionnaire and analysed with frequencies, mean, standard deviation, Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation and multiple regression. The highest number of respondents in LCU (100%) and UI (89.5%) aged between 21-25years while LAUTECH (54.8%) are 18-20years. The most accessible EIR in UI and LCU were e-journals (x ̅=4.31;x ̅=4.08) and in LAUTECH, the Internet (x ̅=3.65). There is a positive ATP in UI (x ̅=3.44), LCU (x ̅=3.38), and LAUTECH (x ̅=2.92). A significant relationship exists between access to EIR and ATP in UI (R=.284, p 0.05). There is a joint significant influence of access to EIR and ATP in UI (R=0.448, adj.R2of 0.180,F=9.439) and LAUTECH (R=0.372, adj.R2 of 0.130,F=17.292), but not significant in LCU (R=0.065, adj.R2 of -0.195,F=0.022). Access to electronic information resources is a predictor of attitude towards plagiarism by undergraduates. Therefore, librarians should make use of different electronic platforms that are accessible to the students in providing instructions on how to write without plagiarising to reduce the rate of plagiarism among the undergraduates. Public libraries play a vital role in providing equitable access to information, resources, and digital skills development to advance socioeconomic goals. However, declining usage and widening digital divides pose adaptability challenges. This paper examines strategies for public libraries to leverage technologies and transform services to remain relevant, inclusive hubs supporting national development priorities. It analyzes the impacts of existing services like public computing and e-books while exploring barriers around funding constraints, infrastructure limitations, staffing shortages, and digital literacy gaps. These inhibit (...) technology adoption, particularly across underserved rural communities. Recommendations center on policies and partnerships to improve access, combined with investments in infrastructure, resources, and librarian training to modernize capacities. In terms of access, governments should expand e-rate subsidies, broadband connectivity programs and multilingual collection development policies. Libraries can partner with civil society groups and educational institutions on digital literacy initiatives targeting vulnerable groups. Sustainable technology funding models encompass increased budget allocations, public-private partnerships with tech companies, and community-based bonds and levies. Modernizing tools should include accessible e-resources, assistive technologies for disabilities, makerspaces and media production studios. Staff skills development is critical - both building technical expertise through expanded LIS curriculums and continual professional development. This paper provides a practical roadmap for the digital transformation of public libraries to effectively leverage emerging advances in service of access and inclusion goals. The work surveyed staff discipline in academic libraries in Delta State. It was guided by four objectives of the study. The study adopted the survey design and the population of the study is thirty (30) Heads of the library (the academic Librarian in charge and readers services head) in fifteen academic libraries under study. The questionnaire was used as the instrument for data collection. Data generated from the study were analyzed using frequency count and simple percentage (%). Findings of the (...) study revealed that; although disciplinary procedures are rarely carried out, the discipline procedures mainly demonstrated in the libraries studied are formal warning, reprimand/query, temporary suspension, Verbal Warnings and demotion. It was discovered that the reasons for indiscipline in the libraries with ethnicity/ nepotism ranks highest and the elements influencing the effective adoption of disciplinary procedures in libraries are lack library policy. Based on the findings of the study, the researchers recommend that the management should establish clear and well-communicated disciplinary policies, provide training to library staff on conflict resolution and enforcement procedures, foster a culture of respect and inclusion and collaborate closely with university administration and other stakeholders to ensure a consistent approach to disciplinary issues. Taking a cursory look at the trends of LIS education among the six GCC countries, certain patterns in the practice of LIS profession in the States with two or more library schools were identified. In spite of the low representation of the LIS education in the region, the influx of expatriates to the region has closed the gap that lack of library and information professionals would have created. However, the increasing youth unemployment rate of the nationals of the Gulf States (...) have prompted their governments into actions. The United Arab Emirates in particular, through the employment policy initiative for its citizens has mandated private companies with at least 50 skilled workers in the country to ensure its citizens constitute 2% of every 50 skilled workers in the company. Given that there is only one library school (private) in the country, this paper x-rays the potential employment opportunities that LIS education could create for the unemployed citizens of the UAE (otherwise known as Emiratis). This is based on the premise that education sector is arguably the largest employer of skilled labour that the country seek for its citizens. Data of private schools across the country were sourced from education authorities in the seven Emirates that make up the country and categorized by grades. The recommended number of librarians required for each grade category by stakeholders in the field was determined. The finding corroborating Boumarafi, (2008) shows that on a short term of 5-year period, LIS education targeting private schools only could create 1330 skilled jobs for Emiratis. This is beside hundreds of other job opportunities in about 100 higher institutions of learning in the country which are not factored in this paper. The identified patterns which could pose challenges to LIS education from achieving its mandate are highlighted and recommendations are made on how to overcome them. (shrink)

Information system is a collection of interrelated components that collect, process, store, organize, retrieve, manage and provide information to support business activities, decision making, and performance in an organization. Information systems use is a computerized database of information, organized, and programmed in a way that produces regular reports on the operations for every employee in the company. The study investigated the influence of the library management system in managing library information resources by librarians in Ekiti state tertiary institutions. The study adopted the descriptive survey design. The sample for the study comprised 80 librarians who were randomly selected through simple random sampling. Purpose of Library Management System (PLIS) and Challenges of Library Management System (CLMS) were the two instruments used to collect relevant data for the study. The research questions raised were answered using mean and standard deviation. (...) Means scores cut off point of 2.50 and above was accepted. The findings from the study indicated that librarians used library management systems for various purposes with weighted average (3.57). The findings also revealed that librarians encountered challenges in using library management systems such as poor maintenance culture, low level of computer literacy amongst staff, erratic/poor power supply and lack of commitment by institutional management with weighted average (2.53). Based on the above finding, the researchers recommended that librarians should update their ICT skills to make use of the library management system for their effective service delivery. Also the bandwidth for Internet connectivity should be increased to improve the speed of using library management systems by librarians and users. At the same time, the management should employ and provide all necessary facilities that will stop network failure in order to make librarians enjoy the benefits of using the library management system for effective service delivery. In this research on comparative study of academic performance of undergraduates admitted through UTME, Pre-Degree and Direct-Entry into the Federal University of Technology, Owerri. Seven (7) Schools/Faculties were randomly drawn for the study, from where sixteen (16) departments were randomly selected and the CGPA of their graduated students 2011/2012 – 2015/2016 used for the research. A total population of 1280 students out of which a sample of 668 students’ CGPA across the departments were drawn. We analyzed the CGPA data using (...) different sample sizes for each admission mode and found that the average performance of graduated students, their standard deviation, their range, from DE, PD, and UTME were consistent with the one where the sample sizes were the same. We saw that the performance was generally better with those that gained admission through UTME: the difference between their best students and the lowest student are closer than those in other modes, their average performance was higher than others and the closeness on performance among one another are smaller and better than others. Viewing the analysis of the students’ CGPA from the gap between the extreme values, we observed that the gap exists most in PD, followed by DE and finally, UTME. Hence, UTME mode of admission was better, followed by PD and lastly by DE mode of admissions on the general note. (shrink)

The study was designed to ascertain the utilization of media resources for instructions among library educators in adult learning centers in Awka South LGA. A descriptive survey research design was used for the study. The sample population comprised of 14 adult educators selected randomly from adult learning center in Awka South LGA using the purposive sampling technique. A structured questionnaire on a four (4) – point Likert scale was used for collection of data. The instrument was subjected to face validation (...) and pilot test using Cronbach Alpha which gave a reliability coefficient value of 0.96. Data collected from the study were analyzed using mean scores. The study found that the current level of integration of media resources for instructional purposes by library educators in adult learning centers such as digital texts, interactive multimedia, online courses and learning management systems (LMS), simulations and virtual reality (VR), and open educational resources (OER) among others was low. The impact of using media resources in adult learning by library educators in Awka South LGA were enhanced engagement with media resources, accessibility and flexibility of media tools, enables personalization of media contents, and improved comprehension, among others. The challenges faced by library educators in utilizing media resources for adult education in Awka South LGA are insufficiency of media resources and infrastructure, poor confidence in the use of media applications, and poor maintenance culture on media resources and its tools, among others. The study concluded that the utilization of media resources for instruction by library educators in adult learning centers in Awka South LGA has emerged as a pivotal endeavor with far-reaching implications. The incorporation of various media resources, including digital texts, multimedia, online courses, and interactive platforms has significantly enriched the learning experiences of library and information science adult learners. The study investigated the utilization of social media platforms for research productivity by postgraduate students in universities in Benue State, Nigeria. Four specific objectives with corresponding research questions guided the study. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design. The population of the study comprises 2035 postgraduate students in three Universities in Benue State. The sample size consisted of 334 postgraduate students from the three universities under the study. The instrument for data collection is a self developed questionnaire titled “Utilization (...) of Social Media for Research Productivity by Postgraduates in Universities Questionnaire” (USMRPPUQ)”. The questionnaire was validated by three experts. The reliability of the questionnaire was established using Cronbach Alpha method and a reliability coefficient of 0.85 was obtained. Data collected were analyzed using Frequency Counts, Percentages, Means and Standard Deviation to answer research questions. Findings of the study revealed that Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Wikis (Wikipedia,wikia,wikispaces), Blog, Academia, LinkedIn and WhatsApp among others are the social media platforms available to be utilized for research productivity by postgraduate students in universities in Benue State. It was also revealed that the extent to which postgraduates utilize social media platforms for research productivity in Universities in Benue State is high. Further, it was revealed that undermined privacy of research, security issues, copyright and intellectual property issues and lack of institutional support among others were the challenges faced by postgraduate students in utilizing social media platforms for research productivity in Universities in Benue State. The study concluded that, postgraduate students in universities in Benue State have access to a range of social media platforms, with Google+ being the most utilized, to enhance their research productivity. The study therefore recommended among others that universities should organize workshops and training sessions for postgraduate students in order to familiarize them with social media platforms’ features, benefits, and best practices for enhancing research productivity and universities should more invest in upgrading internet facilities and infrastructure on campus to ensure seamless and affordable access to the internet for all postgraduate students. Traditional birth attendants (TBAs) are important for maternal health care especially in Africa’s low-income areas. Without doubt, the relevance of TBAs in developing countries such as Nigeria is not expected to reduce in the foreseeable future. The knowledge of traditional birth attendants will continue to be needed and considering the tacit nature of their knowledge, there is a need to preserve the knowledge in this profession and promote sharing of best practices to prevent maternal mortality issues. This study investigated the (...) knowledge sharing (KS) and referral practices of TBAs in low-income urban areas of South-west Nigeria. Qualitative approach was adopted and data collected from 25 TBAs through face-to-face interviews. TBAs generally had a positive attitude towards KS and knowledge reciprocity was a strong reason for KS. Challenges to KS were lack of trust, fear of colleagues being into voodoo and lack of appreciation for knowledge shared. Patient referral was a practice especially for complicated cases. Challenges to referrals included excessive hospital bills and sometimes orthodox practitioners’ blaming TBAs for maternal complications. TBAs reported a very good working relationship with orthodox practitioners and support in form of providing advice on safe delivery. The positive attitude of TBAs to KS and patient referrals, as well as improved collaboration with orthodox health practitioners shows a change in narratives earlier reported on traditional health practitioners. Strategies aimed at improving maternal health and achieving 2030 Sustainable Development Goal 3 which targets reduction of maternal mortality, should not exclude the knowledge of TBAs especially in low-income areas where their patronage is substantial. When it comes to public libraries, they face greater challenges in meeting the requirements of their increasingly diverse readership. The present study is an attempt to analyze the awareness and usage of the information sources and services offered by the D.V.G. public library, Kolar. A well-structured questionnaire was distributed (...) to draw the data from the users. Responses from the users show that 95% of respondents are aware of and use them to fulfill their information needs. Teh study dwells on teh application of information and communication technology (ICT) for enhancing information service delivery in South-West Nigeria’s public polytechnic libraries. Teh study's goal is to determine teh extent of ICT application in polytechnic libraries. For teh study, a descriptive survey research design was adopted. Teh population of teh study consists of all teh library personnel in South-West Nigeria’s public polytechnic libraries. Teh instrument for gathering data was a questionnaire. Descriptive statistics such as mean, standard deviation, frequency count, (...) and simple percentage were used to analyse teh data. Teh hypothesis was tested by Pearson Moment Product Correlation at a 0.05 level of significance. Teh results show dat teh ICT application in South-West Nigeria’s public polytechnic libraries is at a low rate. Teh findings also show dat information services and ICT applications has a strong, significant relationship. Based on teh results, teh study concludes dat ICT application is vital for teh improvement in information services delivery in polytechnic libraries and recommendations were made dat institutions should assist library administration in providing funding for teh use of ICT in libraries to ensure efficient delivery of information services. The paper focused on public library service to children in selected State Library Boards in Nigeria. Public library service is expected to be enjoyed by all the people living in the community where it is located. Adults, young adults, children, literates, and illiterates are being served by public libraries in all parts of the world. These categories of users have specific spaces where they are to be served in the public library. The children’s section is one of the sections to (...) be provided for in every public library in every part of the world. This section provides resources and services to various categories of children in the library. Children develop reading skills, acquire cultural knowledge, and learn inquiry skills etc at a tender age in the public library which is to be complimented by the school library. With the numerous benefits derived by the children from using their section, some shortcomings have been observed. The researchers therefore investigated the state of the section in some selected library boards in Nigeria. Six selected public libraries in Nigeria were visited and observed to identify the state of the children section. Findings from the study revealed among others: 6(100%) selected libraries have provision and space for children’s library but only 1(16.7%) space was adequate; all the libraries provided textbooks and storybooks for children but their information resources were fairly current. The study explored research data management readiness at the Uganda Cancer Institute. Its objectives were to; establish the state of research data and the institutional readiness for research data management practices. The case study applied a survey method using a questionnaire modified from the Data Asset Framework and the Community Capability Model Framework. The respondents were 60 staff members at different professional levels purposively selected. The findings show massive data generated from clinical trials, and routine cancer clinics at the institute. (...) The business processes are mainly manual except for the funded research projects which are hybrid. The existing data sets could not be quantified, but all patient-related physical data are permanently archived in the institute’s registry. The electronic research data from funded projects is under the responsibility of the System Administrator and the Data Officers of respective projects. Research data management readiness assessed through collaborations was taking place and beneficial to the institute, and the technical infrastructure was robust. Findings indicate the absence of an institute-wide legal/policy framework and a substantive skills training program for staff research data management competence development. Research data management practices were intuitively executed in funded projects, the ethical requirements were embedded in the research cycle and adhered to. The study recommended emphasizing a written localised Data Management Plan for all projects submitted for approval; initiating a tailor-made RDM training program; a comprehensive RDM policy, and creating RDM awareness and interest among staff at the institute. The study examined judicial libraries as predictors for effective administration of justice in Nigeria. The population involved all legal practitioners and legal educators in Nigeria. 4000 respondents were sampled. Due to unavailability of the population at the time of the study, the adopted convenience sampling technique to sample 4000 respondents across legal professional bodies in Nigeria. A structured questionnaire titled ‘Use of Judicial Library and Administration of Justice Scale’ was used for data collection. The questionnaire was structured with the 4-point (...) Likert scale response style, designed on Google form and distributed to the respondents via various social media platforms. A total of 3084 questionnaire were responded to, indicating 77.1 percent response rate. The responses were collated using frequency and simple regression and mean score were used for analysis. The findings shows that the utilization of legal resources and legal information resources influence administration of justice at 4.1% and 5.1%, respectively. The influences are statistically significant. It was also discovered that limited budget, space constraints, accessibility issues, staffing issues, information overload, and copyright restrictions are some challenges facing judicial libraries. It was concluded that enhancing the capabilities of judicial libraries through effective management, proper funding, and technological integration is essential to ensure the continuous improvement of Nigeria's administration of justice. Among others, it was recommended that policymakers and relevant authorities should allocate more substantial funds to judicial libraries. Adequate budgetary provisions would facilitate the acquisition, maintenance, and update of legal resources, ensuring these libraries are well-equipped to support the legal fraternity. (shrink)

Descriptive survey was adopted and a sample of 392 undergraduate students were randomly selected across the fifteen faculties in University of Ilorin by using multi-stage random sampling technique. A questionnaire was used to collect data from 392 selected sample, out of which 376 copies of the questionnaire were completely filled and returned. Data collected for the four research questions were analyzed using frequency counts (...) and percentages while PPMC was used to test the only null hypothesis of the study. The study found that projector; computer; audio recordings; television; digital camera, media player; video recording; and interactive white board are the major multimedia resources available to undergraduate students in University of Ilorin; and majority of the respondents have positive attitudes to the utilization of multimedia resources. The study also showed that majority of the respondents use multimedia resources monthly while epileptic power supply; poor Internet connectivity; and insufficient technical support for the effective use of multimedia resources are the major challenges that undergraduate students in University of Ilorin encountered when using multimedia resources. The result also established that there is a significant relationship between attitude and utilization of multimedia resources by the undergraduate students in University of Ilorin. The study recommends that university management should provide a standby generator and solar inverter that will address the issue of power failure in the university community; and school management should collaborate with the network providers so as provide strong internet broadband width that will solve the issue of poor internet connection while using multimedia resources. The study investigates the information needs and information-seeking behaviour of clinical health workers for the treatment of diabetic mellitus patients in the rural areas in Benue state Nigeria. Two research questions guided the study. A descriptive survey design was adopted for the study. A total of four hundred and twenty-two (422) health workers with a sample of two hundred and six (206) clinical health workers from general hospitals in 23 Local Governments Areas in Benue state was used for the study. (...) The questionnaire was used as an instrument for data collection. Data collected was analysed using descriptive statistics of mean and standard deviation. A mean score cut-off point of 2.50 was used to determine a positive response. The findings of the study revealed that Information on the care of patients with diabetics, information on improvement of knowledge in clinical areas on diabetics, information on how to support lifelong learning, and information on occupational hazards, among others are the type of information needs of health workers for the treatment of diabetic mellitus patients in rural areas in Benue State. Often use of the Internet, medical journals, nursing colleagues, consulting of doctors’ colleagues, always use of medical libraries, and electronic databases like Cenahlete, amongst others are the channels of information provision for health workers for the treatment of diabetic mellitus patients in rural areas in Benue State. Lack of internet access, inadequate training of medical practitioners in the use of information, lack of current resources in the medical libraries, inadequate research on user study to identify information needs of health practitioners, and inadequate training of library and information professionals, are the constraints affecting information needs and seeking behaviour of health workers for treatment of diabetic mellitus patients in rural areas in Benue state. The study recommended that the Information needs of health workers should be addressed to enable them to have access to information that will aid them in the treatment of diabetic mellitus patients Channels of meeting information needs of health workers for the treatment of diabetic mellitus disease should be made available by government, health care centres, privates and well meaning individuals as well as adequately equip with information resources to increase health workers access to information for treatment of diabetic mellitus patients in rural areas. The present study was conducted with the aim of analyzing the websites of universities recognized by UGC using different parameters. Small SEO tools, MOZ and SimilarWeb were utilized to collect data related to the websites. Analysis of the website revealed that the majority of universities were grouped under 'Class A' which specifies that they have a large number of host in their network. Universities also used 'https' secure protocol for transferring data over the network. Domain authority and page authority revealed (...) that the 'University of Mumbai' has the highest domain authority whereas "Savitribai Phule Pune University' has the highest page authority. Technological advancements, innovations, research, changing user needs, and online education have significantly affected traditional libraries. The 21st-century has engendered library users who seldom visit physical libraries but rely on alternative sources of information like Google from their convenient locations. This implies that for libraries to effectively adapt to the technologically driven academic landscape, adoption of Virtual Library and Information Services (VLIS) is the most feasible approach for them to fulfill their mandate of information provision. However, despite the numerous benefits VLIS (...) offers, such as timely and convenient access to a wide range of current electronic resources, its adoption, implementation and consumption remains limited. This paper gives a report of a study that was conducted to determine the attitude of library users and faculty towards VLIS at Makerere and Uganda Christian University (UCU) libraries. A pragmatic research paradigm with mixed methods approach was adopted to collect data from 394 library users, using a questionnaire while interviews were conducted with 8 library staff. Data were analyzed using the SPSS. Study findings indicated that VLIS is perceived highly in terms of enhancing users’ studies and significance in the core universities tasks. Users’ also exhibited interest in acquiring more VLIS knowledge and demonstrated their appreciation of VLIS. Conversely, users’ in using VLIS was rated poor. Recommendations included modification of the Open Distance and E-learning policies, integration of active links of e-resources in students’ reading lists, a media monitoring room, zero rating on all library websites and incorporation of IL into the university curriculum. Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) have greatly influenced access, management and dissemination of information. ICTs have become central to education and training in Library and Information Science/Service (LIS) because of the great influence of these technologies on the professional world. Information professionals are increasingly required to adapt their skills and practice in order to gain an awareness of technological advances. It has changed their role in the workplace with new and diverse skills requirements. The purpose of this study was to (...) examine how Library and Information Science (LIS) schools are integrating ICTs in their curriculum. The study was largely qualitative with content analysis being conducted on LIS modules to determine ICT coverage. A brief questionnaire was also distributed to the LIS Schools to ascertain the level of infrastructure and other resources available to support these programmes. The findings revealed that LIS schools were incorporating ICT skills in the courses taught. The study observed however that there are some courses which required ICT skills integration but were still being taught at theoretical level. Challenges faced by the LIS schools included infrastructure, hardware and internet access. The study recommends for an accelerated integration of ICTs in the courses in order to meet the requirements of industry and employers. (shrink)

A thriving student is completely physically, socially, and emotionally active and has a social connection and psychological well-being that can lead to college success. This study was conducted to determine the various enablers that predict the thriving of (BLIS) Bachelor of Library and Information Science students in the Caraga Region which can lead to their academic success through the presence and manifestation of academic, psychological, and social enablers. This study utilized descriptive correlational research design to gather quantifiable information on the (...) relationships that exist between the variables. The respondents of this study were eighty-two (82) BLIS students from 4 schools that offer Library Science course in Caraga and the sampling method used was total population sampling due to the limited number of Bachelor of Library and Information Science students. Results revealed that in terms of characterization of the respondents' enablers, other enablers mostly got high ratings and only social connectedness got the lowest ratings. In their extent of student thriving, vitality scored low but the interpretation was still a manifestation of their enthusiasm in school activities. It was also found that there are three enablers that pointedly predict the respondents' thriving at school, it was academic determination, social connectedness, and positive perspective which was a clear manifestation that there are indeed enablers that predict the students’ thriving at school. It was also recommended that school administrators and faculty make programs and activities that enhance the students’ enablers that will lead to academic success. (shrink)

The purpose of this work is to do an exploratory descriptive analysis of topics included in Artificial Intelligence (AI) electronic library guides of academic libraries. AI library guides from members of the Association of Research Libraries (ARL) are chosen for selection. Of the 48 libraries randomly selected, 25 have AI guides. Data collected was subject to a content analysis process which included the use of terms co-occurrence using the VOSviewer software. The study examined undergraduate students’ satisfaction with current awareness and orientation services in university libraries in Benue State. Two specific objectives with corresponding research questions guided the study and two hypotheses were formulated and tested at 0.05 level of significance. The study adopted a survey research design. The population of the study was 4,411 library registered 400 level students in Universities in Benue State. The sample size of 367 registered library undergraduate students was used for the study. The sample was (...) selected using proportionate stratified and simple random sampling techniques. The instrument for data collection was a self-developed structured questionnaire titled “Undergraduate Satisfaction with Current Awareness and Orientation Services Questionnaire” (USCAOSQ). The questionnaire was validated by three experts. The reliability of the questionnaire was established using Cronbach Alpha method and a reliability coefficient of 0.81 was obtained. Data collected was analyzed using descriptive statistics of Mean and Standard Deviation to answer the research questions and a non parametric statistic of Chi-square to test the hypothesis at 0.05 level of significance. Findings of the study revealed that the level of satisfaction derived by undergraduate students with current awareness and orientation services offered by University Libraries in Benue State was not significant. The study concluded that undergraduate students' satisfaction with current awareness and orientation services in university libraries in Benue State is not significant, highlighting the need for substantial improvements in service quality and orientation programs. Recommendations were made that university libraries should focus on improving the quality of their current awareness services by ensuring that students have easy access to updated information through various channels such as newsletters, email alerts, and social media and it is essential for university libraries to review and update the orientation programs offered to new students and provide clear and comprehensive guidance on how to navigate the library's resources and services. The study investigated reference services accessibility and users’ satisfaction in university libraries in Benue State, Nigeria. Four specific objectives with corresponding research questions guided the study. The study adopted a survey research design. The population of the study was 3,851 400 level library registered undergraduate library users in universities in Benue State. The sample size of 362 undergraduate users was selected. The instrument for data collection was a self-structured questionnaire titled, “Reference Service Accessibility and Undergraduate Satisfaction Questionnaire (RSAUSQ). The questionnaire (...) was validated by three experts. The reliability of the questionnaire was established using Cronbach Alpha method and a reliability coefficient of 0.82 was obtained. Data collected were analyzed using Frequency Counts, Percentages, Means and Standard Deviation to answer research questions. Findings of the study revealed that Selective Dissemination of Information, orientation services, library tour, library instruction, current awareness service, inter library loan services and ready reference questions among others are highly accessed in university libraries in Benue State, Nigeria. The findings also revealed that users are satisfied with access to reference services provided in university libraries Benue State to a high extent. In addition, it was revealed that the challenges that affect users’ satisfaction with reference services provided are epileptic power supply, poor ICT infrastructure, absence of well-defined and uniform library policies on reference services, irrelevant reference collections, lack of information literacy skills and inadequate qualified reference librarians among others. The study concluded that, reference services are highly accessed in university libraries in Benue State and this has enhanced users’ satisfaction with the services. However, there are specific areas where user satisfaction remains relatively low Therefore, the study recommended among others that University libraries should make efforts to increase access to underutilized reference services by raising awareness among users about these services through promotional campaigns, workshops, and user education programs and also ensure adequate provision of alternative sources of power to enhance users’ accessibility and satisfaction with the reference services they provide. The aim of the study was to examine users’ satisfaction with services, resources, and facilities in Nigeria Maritime University Library Okerenkoko, Delta State. The study adopted a descriptive survey design because of its potency in examining respondents via data collection and analysis to arrive at a conclusion. The total enumeration sampling technique was adopted for the study because of the manageable size of the population. The instrument used for eliciting data from the respondents was a structured questionnaire with the aid (...) of two research assistants. The researcher distributed 215 copies of the questionnaire to the respondents and only 206 copies were returned and found usage for the research. The elicited via the questionnaire were analysed using descriptive statistics method which involves mainly frequency counts and percentage. The findings revealed that the extent of patronage of the Nigeria Maritime University library was low as users only patronise the library for reading for examination and test. Also, it can be concluded from the findings that the users’ satisfaction level with the Nigeria Maritime University Library Services is high. The findings revealed that the users’ satisfaction level with the Nigeria Maritime University library resources is high. Similarly, the finding revealed that the users’ satisfaction level with the Nigeria Maritime University library facilities is high. It was recommended in the study that further studies should be carried out to ascertain the factors that have led to the low patronage of the Nigeria Maritime University Library Okerenkoko, Delta State and the library's administrators should maintain the high level of user satisfaction by enhancing the availability of current and relevant information resources, contemporary facilities, and appropriate services that fulfill users' requirements and expectations. This study investigated research data management services among University libraries in Lagos State, Nigeria. Research data management is performed for scientific inquiry with the main purpose of adding to the quality of research. In this study, research data management was measured using data creation, data processing, data analysis, data preservation and data reuse as adapted from research data life cycle. The study adopted descriptive survey and structured questionnaires were administered to librarians from selected University libraries in Lagos State, Nigeria. Findings of this study revealed that the level of research data management services among the respondents is high with data indicating that they score high on all the metrics of research data management services such as data creation, data analysis, data preservation, data sharing, and data reuse. However, this should be contextualized in the sense that the librarians are providing data management services based on the limited needs of the researchers they serve. This study investigated the use of open educational resources (OER) among academics and students at the Local Government Training Institute in Tanzania (LGTI). The study was premised on the pragmatism paradigm and deployed a mixed-methods research approach. An explanatory sequential design was used. The sample size comprised 55 respondents from LGTI who filled out questionnaires. Five library staff and two ICT staff were purposefully selected for interviews. Quantitative data was analysed using SPSS version 16, while qualitative data was thematically analysed (...) based on the themes that emerged from the interview. The findings from the questionnaires and interviews established that academics and students were aware of OER. The findings further revealed that most academics frequently use OER for teaching and learning purposes, while the use of OER among students was moderate. A study found that students and academics encounter various challenges in their use of OER, including unreliable internet connectivity, a lack of searching skills, information overload, and a lack of awareness. The study recommends that LGTI management ensure regular training on OER usage is conducted for both academics and students to equip them with searching skills. The study further recommends that LGTI management invest in ICT facilities, including ensuring the availability of stable internet connectivity. Finally, the study recommends that the management of LGTI embrace the use of blended learning to promote the use of OERs in learning. (shrink)

The Internet has significantly influenced every aspect of human life, while the present era is characterized by information evolution. Efforts to measure up with the quest for information become a herculean task with the traditional reference information service. However, the traditional reference service has undergone a massive facelift with the introduction of the Internet. The concept of online reference information service is an expert way of providing for users' information needs through the mediation of a reference librarian. The study investigated the perception and satisfaction level of online reference information service users and how to satisfy the information needs of users in NBTS. The study was delimited to the Nigerian Baptist Theological Seminary, Ogbomoso, in scope, and the study sample was drawn from students and other library users in the community. Based on the findings, online reference services through user education must be prioritized in today's library system. Cooperation of online reference librarians with both local and international online reference librarians is also of utmost importance. The study aimed to determine the efficiency and effectiveness of the services of Saint Mary's University Learning Resource Center. Specifically, it aimed to answer the following questions: 1. What is the extent of effectiveness and efficiency of the services offered in the different sections of the University Learning Resource Center?; 2. What is the extent of effectiveness and efficiency of the University Learning Resource Center in the following library services: a) bibliographic services, b) circulation services, c) current awareness services, d) (...) e-library services, e) information retrieval services, f) reference services, and g) instruction services?; and 3) What recommendations can be proposed to improve the ULRC services? This study utilized a descriptive method of research using a researcher-made survey questionnaire based on the readings relevant to the study. The questionnaire underwent face and content validation through a library, information science, and research experts. Data were gathered from 94 faculty and students using the library onsite and enrolled during the SY 2022-2023 at Saint Mary's University, Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya, Philippines. The study found that the effectiveness and efficiency of the different sections of the ULRC were moderately effective and moderately efficient. Some sections' ineffectiveness and inefficiency were attributed to location issues, lack of publicities, and the intended audience or readers of collections in each section. On the other hand, the services of Saint Mary's University Learning Resource Center, such as bibliographic, circulation, current awareness, e-library, information retrieval, reference, and instruction services, were effective and efficient. The study investigates information communication technology competence and reference service provision in Federal Universities in North-Central, Nigeria. Reference librarians now provide users with databases that give access to millions of journal articles as well as access to the internet which has holdings of libraries and a limitless variety of formal and informal sources of information. The study has one objective, a research question and one hypothesis. The study adopted total enumeration using a descriptive survey design. The population of the study (...) is three hundred and sixty library personnel comprising professionals and para-professionals. Three hundred and six questionnaires were returned and used for this study. The findings of the study gave insight into how the library personnel in the North-Central federal universities view information and communication technology and their competence in providing reference service to users. The study shows that the library personnel have high-level skills in search engines such as Yahoo and Google, and basic computing such as word-processing and storing and copying data into primary storage devices among others in the eight federal universities in North Central Nigeria. The result revealed a significant influence of ICT skills on reference service provision by library personnel in North-Central Nigeria. The study recommended among others that the governing council and senate of the eight federal universities should urgently consider providing, encouraging and upgrading the application of computer technologies in reference services in university libraries to boost the libraries and to also frequently and adequately provide training and development programme for library staff. The integration of digital technologies in libraries represents a transformative move in the way information is accessed, disseminated, and preserved. The main purpose of the study is to examine the impact of digital technologies on resources and services of public libraries in Anambra and Imo States, and five specific objectives were formed to guide the study. Survey method was adopted for the study. The population of the study comprises of all the library staff both professional and para-professional staff of Anambra (...) state and Imo state public library board (Headquarters) and there are fifty-eight (58) in number. The entire fifty-eight (58) was used as sample size, census enumeration was adopted. The instrument for data collection for the study was the four point modified likert rating scale. The researcher administered the questionnaires through the help of research assistant. The data collected was analyzed using descriptive statistics for calculating the mean. Mean score above the expected or criterion mean of 2.5 was accepted while those below the value were rejected. Diffusion of Innovations Theory by Everett Rogers (1962), guided the study. The findings of the study revealed that the overall digital awareness, as indicated by the grand mean, is moderate, with a score of approximately 1.82 and that the extent of digital integration in the two public libraries is on low extent. The study recommends that that effort should be made to enhance awareness and access to online cataloging, digital lending, and library websites/apps to improve the overall digital literacy and engagement of library users. This may include conducting targeted outreach and educational programs to inform users about these services and their benefits. The library should consider investing in improving its computer facilities for public use, ensuring that patrons have access to up-to-date and well-maintained computers and internet connectivity. However, in spite of the benefits accrued to the use of digital library, postgraduate students, hardly make meaningful use of digital libraries probably because of lack required information which could be made available if digital libraries collaborate with other digital libraries. The study therefore investigates library cooperation and use of (...) digital library by postgraduate students in selected universities in South-west, Nigeria. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design. The population of the study comprised 29,017 postgraduate students and 363 library personnel in 12 universities in South-west, Nigeria. Multi-stage sampling technique was adopted to draw a sample size of 385 from the postgraduate population, while simple random technique with a sampling fraction of 50% was used to draw a sample size of 182 from the library personnel population. The predominant purpose of digital library use by postgraduate students in the selected universities is for examination preparation ( = 3.36) and to complete assignment ( = 3.29). There is a low frequency of digital library use by the postgraduate students. The prominent area of library cooperation among the digital libraries was Inter-library lending ( = 3.43). The study identified erratic power supply ( = 3.25), slow internet speed ( = 3.15) and inaccessibility of some websites ( = 3.13), as some predominant challenges to digital library use by the postgraduate students. There is a weak, positive but not statistically significant relationship between library cooperation and digital library use by postgraduate students (r =.146, P > 0.05). Library cooperation influences the use of digital library by postgraduate students. Libraries should prioritise investment in collaborating with other institutions and stakeholders to share best practices, develop common standards, and promote interoperability of digital resources, as this can help to improve the quality and availability of digital resources and facilitate access to resources across different institutions. There is a weak, positive but not statistically significant relationship between digital preservation practices and digital library use by postgraduate students (r =.067, P > 0.05). Digital preservation practices influences the use of digital library by postgraduate students. Libraries should prioritise investment in digital preservation practices and collaborate with other institutions and stakeholders to share best practices, develop common standards, and promote interoperability of digital resources, as this can help to improve the quality and availability of digital resources and facilitate access to resources across different institutions. This study examines the value and potential pitfalls of establishing an IR, as well as the roles that librarians and authors play in its effective maintenance. In the modern era of electronic publishing, universities and other academic institutions have come to see the importance of having an institutional repository (IR) as part of their intellectual dissemination infrastructure. An IR is an online repository of academic resources that serves as a repository for the intellectual capital of a university or other organization. (...) It's a way to manage the digital scholarship created by its community members before, during, and after publication, all while raising the visibility of the institution and the scholarly standing of its writers. The report recommends using an IR as the gold standard for scholarly digital work because of the significant impact IRs can have on realizing DS's full potential and advantages. Additionally, the challenges faced by repository managers and librarians throughout the development and rollout of IRs in Nigerian universities were identified. Challenges include a lack of resources, infrastructure, and IR-related policies; copyright worries; no required self-archiving policy; and a dearth of enthusiasm among contributors. To guide the effective development and upkeep of IRs, the study suggests that institutions with IR plans create access policy, content policy, submission policy, and preservation policy statements. The study investigated the development of creative spaces in libraries: a case study of Abia State University Library. This study was guided by three specific objectives and three research questions. The design of the study is a descriptive survey, and the population is comprised of 20 librarians from Abia State University Library. Census sampling technique was used to collect the data. The instrument used to generate data for the study is a questionnaire tagged ‘’Development of Creative Spaces in Libraries Questionnaire (...) (DCSLQ), and the data generated was analyzed using the mean. The findings show that in the development of creative spaces, library personnel need certain skills, and when skills are strategically approached, there can be significant growth in the ability to participate and collaborate. In addition, it was found that the skills needed are leadership skills, interpersonal relationships, technological skills, problem solving skills, and knowledge of intervention skills. Some of the challenges are a lack of willingness among librarians to adopt innovative strategies in libraries and a lack of trained personnel to handle the creative spaces. It was recommended, amongst others, that the infrastructure and facilities for creative spaces should be maintained, hence providing an enabling environment for skill acquisition, interaction, and knowledge development. The main goal of this study is to ascertain the level of knowledge that university library staff members who work in the RSU and IAUE libraries possess in regards to digital technology. This investigation was predicated on a set of research questions as well as two hypotheses that were provided in order to explain the data that was collected. The researchers used a correlational survey design and a census sample technique to assemble their findings. The researchers recommend that the library staff at state university libraries in Rivers State should continue to leverage the usage of computers in order to be able to navigate around toolbars, use computer applications, and locate information that is pertinent to their work. The educational system's support for education and research includes the library and information center, which significantly influences how people teach, learn, and conduct research. The present research investigated the extent to which undergraduate and postgraduate students from various departments at Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning (SSSIHL), Anantapur Women's Campus, make use of library resources for their academic purposes. The objective of this research is to assess the library resources, services, and facilities available at Sri Sathya Sai Institute of (...) Higher Learning (SSSIHL), specifically at Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh. A comprehensive dataset was obtained from a group of 150 students who participated in the online survey and submitted full responses. The study's result found that the majority of participants 32.67 percent visited the library twice a week. Mostly use the library to obtain books and reference materials, and the resources offered by the library. Approximately 62.67% of the participants visit the library to borrow books and read the competitive materials, and 59.33% of them used the OPAC search tool to find required documents in the library. Furthermore, a significant number of respondents (94.67 percent) consistently relied on subject textbooks for their academic needs. However, the study concluded that the extent of library resource utilization does not have a significant impact on students' academic performance. Based on the study's findings, several recommendations were proposed to enhance library usage. The most prominent suggestion was to acquire more current and pertinent information sources for the library, ensuring that students have access to the latest research and educational materials. The study examined the roles of women librarians in eradicating gender based violence in Rivers State, Nigeria. Four (4) objectives were formulated to guide this study. A descriptive survey design was adopted for the research. The population for the study comprised 70 women Librarians in Rivers State. Census sampling was adopted. The instrument for data collection was questionnaire. Mean and percentage were used for analyzing the elicited responses. Based on the findings, the various forms of gender based violence are; emotional (...) violence, sexual violence, physical violence, socio-economic violence, amongst others. The study also identified the roles of women librarians in eradicating GBV to include; sensitization and awareness programme on the dangers of GBV and enlightenment on organizations and NGOs to contact when violated. Based on the findings the following recommendations were made: women librarians should sensitize the public through talk shows, workshops, seminars etc. on the dangers and aftermath of gender based violence. The paper takes a literature-based approach to examine the state of academic libraries in Nigeria in the implementation of e-commerce in the digital economy with the goal of identifying the barriers to e-commerce practices and proffering recommendations for better e-commerce applications in Nigerian libraries. E-commerce is becoming a fundamental mode of exchange as a result of the development of information and communication technologies (ICT), and is providing the digital economy with many exciting opportunities. Electronic information sources are essential for PhD students in India's expanding higher education system. This cohort's gender differences in electronic information resource access, use, and choice are examined. Academic equity policies are informed by qualitative thematic analysis of gender inequality. In the digital age, higher education gender equality is crucial. This study examines Indian PhD students' electronic information use by gender. Scholarship must address gender-related information access and use inequities to include women in academia and student resource access. This study examines electronic information resource use, literacy, and barriers in different male and female participants. Surveys illustrate how people choose, evaluate, and use digital information. Many of the analyzed population uses E-journals, E-databases (Research & Statistical Database), and E-databases (Abstracting & Indexing). Interestingly, resource consumption gender discrepancies were minor, indicating equitable access. Despite skill category differences, respondents were confident in their information literacy. These self-assessments demonstrate the need for information literacy training to empower users. Our study found that low computer skills, internet access, power supply instability, and information overload impede technology use. Address these issues for equitable digital resource access and use. This study suggests treating and supporting male and female users. We aim the identification of library policies in universities in the United States with a focus on extraction the elements of policies and classification of policies into main components. In this study, twenty library websites of universities in the United States have been inquired to extract main components of library policies using the classification and comparative analysis. The finding indicates that there are several elements of the policies in the university libraries. In this view, 70 elements are identified which can (...) be categorized into 12 main components. Moreover, the comparative analysis reveals that out of twenty university libraries, over half of them have mentioned element 1-6. 33 elements of policies just have been used in one of the libraries. Out of all universities, Indiana University has got the first rank which has used 24 elements of policies, and the University of Illinois reached the second rank with 20 elements, and Oregon State University got the third rank with 16 elements. Users can scan a QR code and provide feedback, which can help libraries improve their services. The rapid advancement of information technology has an impact on easier access to information, which could encourage academic plagiarism. If plagiarism is not overcome, it can have a number of consequences, including copyright infringement and the emergence of the assumption that plagiarism is a simple way to create a scientific work. Thus, actions are required to overcome plagiarism, one of which is understanding the perception of students as academicians who frequently commit plagiarism, so strategies to overcome it may be provided. (...) This is a quantitative study based on a survey of 106 students of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta. The data obtained were analyzed using statistical methods, both descriptively and inferentially, using the Chi-Square Test. Based on the results of the analysis, it was found that even though students already have an understanding of the concept and consequences of plagiarism, there are still many acts of plagiarism committed by students, especially partial plagiarism. Based on the perception of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta students, the main thing that affects plagiarism is limited time and a lack of understanding of reference writing techniques. As a result, the solution that can be implemented is for universities to implement policies that impose consequences for plagiarism, such as grade reductions. Meanwhile, students also have to uphold academic integrity, gain confidence in their talents, and demonstrate a willingness to learn reference writing techniques. (shrink)
