We are pleased to announce the public launch of the 2020 PhilPapers Survey.  The survey is a follow-up on the 2009 PhilPapers Survey, which was conducted in November 2009.  As with the previous survey, the primary aim of the survey is to discover information about the distribution of philosophical views among professional philosophers in the English-speaking world.  Everyone is welcome to take the survey (whether they have taken the 2009 survey or not). 

The survey includes 100 questions in total.  You will be asked to answer 50 questions, each giving a choice between 2 or more views on a philosophical issue (for example, "Analytic-synthetic distinction: Yes or no?"; "Mind: physicalism or non-physicalism?"). At the end of the survey you will also be given the option to answer the other 50 questions. Respondents must indicate that they accept or lean toward one of the options or can give one of a variety of "other" answers. Following the model of the 2009 survey, we have kept the questions as simple as possible. We will also ask for some optional background information. Answering your assigned questions should take between 20 and 30 minutes.

To take the survey, you must either use an invitation link that we have sent to many professional philosophers or use a valid PhilPapers/PhilPeople account. This requirement helps to minimize survey abuse and to maximize the reliability of responses.
