Shared and Distinct Patterns of Functional Connectivity to Emotional Faces in Autism Spectrum Disorder and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder Children.Kristina Safar, Marlee M. Vandewouw, Elizabeth W. Pang, Kathrina de Villa, Jennifer Crosbie, Russell Schachar, Alana Iaboni, Stelios Georgiades, Robert Nicolson, Elizabeth Kelley, Muhammed Ayub, Jason P. Lerch, Evdokia Anagnostou & Margot J. Taylor - 2022 - Frontiers in Psychology 13.
Impairments in emotional face processing are demonstrated by individuals with neurodevelopmental disorders, including autism spectrum disorder and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, which is associated with altered emotion processing networks. Despite accumulating evidence of high rates of diagnostic overlap and shared symptoms between ASD and ADHD, functional connectivity underpinning emotion processing across these two neurodevelopmental disorders, compared to typical developing peers, has rarely been examined. The current study used magnetoencephalography to investigate whole-brain functional connectivity during the presentation of happy and angry faces in (...)

Exploring the Neural Structures Underlying the Procedural Memory Network as Predictors of Language Ability in Children and Adolescents With Autism Spectrum Disorder and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.Teenu Sanjeevan, Christopher Hammill, Jessica Brian, Jennifer Crosbie, Russell Schachar, Elizabeth Kelley, Xudong Liu, Robert Nicolson, Alana Iaboni, Susan Day Fragiadakis, Leanne Ristic, Jason P. Lerch & Evdokia Anagnostou - 2020 - Frontiers in Human Neuroscience 14.
Introduction: There is significant overlap in the type of structural language impairments exhibited by children with autism spectrum disorder and children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. This similarity suggests that the cognitive impairment contributing to the structural language deficits in ASD and ADHD may be shared. Previous studies have speculated that procedural memory deficits may be the shared cognitive impairment. The procedural deficit hypothesis argues that language deficits can be explained by differences in the neural structures underlying the procedural memory (...)

Characteristics and challenges in the industries towards responsible AI: a systematic literature review.Marianna Anagnostou, Olga Karvounidou, Chrysovalantou Katritzidaki, Christina Kechagia, Kyriaki Melidou, Eleni Mpeza, Ioannis Konstantinidis, Eleni Kapantai, Christos Berberidis, Ioannis Magnisalis & Vassilios Peristeras - 2022 - Ethics and Information Technology 24 (3):1-18.
Today humanity is in the midst of the massive expansion of new and fundamental technology, represented by advanced artificial intelligence (AI) systems. The ongoing revolution of these technologies and their profound impact across various sectors, has triggered discussions about the characteristics and values that should guide their use and development in a responsible manner. In this paper, we conduct a systematic literature review with the aim of pointing out existing challenges and required principles in AI-based systems in different industries. We (...)

Later platonists and their heirs among Christians, Jews, and Muslims.Ken Parry & Eva Anagnostou-Laoutides (eds.) - 2023 - Boston: Brill.
Later Platonists and their Heirs among Christians, Jews and Muslims offers a thought-provoking exploration of the reception of Platonism among communities of faith from early Christianity to the sixteenth century, from the Byzantine East to the Latin West. Rare emphasis is placed on the importance of Platonic thought and its diffusion in late antique and medieval Syria, Armenia, and Georgia but also among Arab and Jewish intellectuals from the seventh century onwards. As such, the volume makes a statement against the (...)

Eastern Christianity and late antique philosophy.Evangelia Anagnostou-Laoutides & Ken Parry (eds.) - 2020 - Boston: Brill.
Readers of Eastern Christianity and Late Antique Philosophy will find a collection of authoritative papers from across the Neoplatonic and Eastern Christian traditions. It is only recently that scholars have started to take notice of the Eastern Christian engagement with late antique philosophical texts. This volume builds upon this new interest in order to show the dynamic nature of Neoplatonism and Eastern Christianity at a time when both faced a variety of challenges. The legacy of Greek philosophy in the Christian (...)

Herodas'Mimiamb7 has often attracted scholarly attention on account of its thematic preoccupation with the sexuality of ordinary people, thus offering a realistic and exciting glimpse of everyday life in the eastern Mediterranean of the third centuryb.c.e. In addition, his obscure reference in lines 62–3 to the obsession of women and dogs with dildos has been the focus of long-standing scholarly debate: while most scholars agree that the verses employ a metaphor, possibly of obscene nature, their exact meaning is still to (...)

Arete in Plato and Aristotle.Ryan M. Brown & Jay R. Elliott (eds.) - 2022 - Sioux City: Parnassos Press.
For Plato and Aristotle, arete (traditionally translated as "virtue") was the essential object of human admiration and striving, and even the key to happiness. Their work continues to inspire reflection on fundamental questions of ethics and politics today, as the fourteen new essays collected here demonstrate. -/- Contributors: Lidia Palumbo, Eva Anagnostou-Laoutides, Ryan M.
