Metaphysics and Epistemology
  1. Abstract Objects, Ideal Forms, and Works of Art: An Epistemic and Aesthetic Analysis.Robert Rose-Coutré - 2006 - New York: iUniverse.
Joining philosophy of language with phenomenological aesthetics, this book defines the epistemological status of abstract objects and works of art. Beginning with a provocative conversation between Socrates, Plato, Wittgenstein, and Jung, the book introduces the concept, and coins the term, "Platonic Inductive Fallacy," deriving from a cycle of language games. The author then invokes Robert Stalnaker to clarify the difference between real and actual objects, which gives new insight into the epistemology of abstract objects. Armed with defined abstract objects, the (...)

Heidegger's scattered elaboration of formal indication is condemned to a certain degree of reconstruction. Thus, my primary goal in this paper is to provide a principled account of formal indication by retracing the initial stakes and structural moments. I will outline the seemingly disjointed methodological fragments to render a unified account. My complementary goal is to provide a defensible account of its scattered elaboration in the Frühe Freiburger Vorlesungen, 1919–1923. Disagreement regarding the meaning and validity of Heidegger's formal indication is (...)

  4. Martin Heidegger’s Critical Confrontation with Hermann Lotze's Concept of Truth.Joshua D. F. Hooke - manuscript
My primary goal in this paper is to provide a historical reconstruction of Heidegger’s relationship with Hermann Lotze’s logic of validity. Lotze’s characterization of truth's ‘actuality’ solidifies the fallacious presupposition that the essence of truth is to be understood primarily in terms of logical assertions. Heidegger marks this decisive position in §44 of Being and Time and gains its methodological purchase through the deconstruction of traditional logic. However, Heidegger’s treatment is abbreviated, and his sources remain notoriously concealed. For this reason, (...)

This monograph focuses on two major themes of current interest---those of complexity and emergence. Neither of the two concepts is, in the very nature of things, precisely defined or easily comprehended. Complexity is all around us while the sciences often analyze entities and events by making simplifications. But the fault lines in the latter get exposed over larger spans of space and time. Complexity entails emergence that involves discontinuity and novelty in the evolution of complex systems, based on the appearance (...)

His philosophy is often associated with existentialism, despite his own rejection of the label. The Absurd and the Search for Meaning At the heart of Camus’ philosophy is the concept of the Absurd, which arises from the conflict between the (...)

The second is via an account for which biochemical kinds are natural categories [Chapter 4, Chapter 7]. The thesis comprises (...)

I defend anti-criterialism by responding to this objection and arguing that none of these aspects are undermined by anti-criterialism. Firstly, the attitude reclassification argument disentangles reason-responsiveness from the constraints of evidentialism and allows for the adoption of conflicting propositions by coherent doxastic attitudes. Secondly, the failure reclassification argument demystifies the loss of doxastic control in purported cases of epistemic akrasia by appealing to the more comprehensive and distinct phenomenon of self-deception.

  48. Metaphysics of Science and the Contingency Condition for Heterodox Sciences.S. M. Reza Amiri Tehrani - 2022 - Fundamental Research on Humanities 8 (2):31-54.
Along with inefficiencies of mainstream sciences to find solutions for world problems, and besides the unpleasant difficulties in human lives due to such matters as poverty and economic gap, environmental pollution and climate change, the question raised is whether alternative sciences are contingent, which could preserve mainstream sciences’ potencies and avoid inefficiencies.
