The feeling of shame has a longstanding role in the relations between individual and society. In this article we shall distinguish between shame and shaming and try to understand the social and cultural function of shame. Even though shame is a feeling that has a physiological basis, the way in which we experience emotions differs from culture to culture since it is the meaning that we attach to an event that evokes the emotion rather than the event itself. In order (...) to understand the phenomenon of social shaming in the present we must examine the social origins of this phenomenon in Western culture. The methodology most fitting to examine this cultural construct is the genealogical method, by way of which we shall come to see that shaming is not an essentially new phenomenon in Western culture, but only a new mode of expressing old patterns. El objetivo del presente trabajo es analizar la dificultad y los límites para comprender el significado ético de las decisiones profesionales. Éstas denotan tensiones dialécticas entre lo que el individuo considera su responsabilidad directa y las condiciones en las cuales se ve obligado a actuar y no puede controlar. En otras palabras, se cree actuar con buenas intenciones y razones legítimas y termina determinado por una cadena de acciones que lo llevan a un colapso del significado moral, tanto de sí (...) mismo y del valor del acto en sí, lo cual se convierte en un argumento para justificar la violencia de sus actos. Proponemos que la ética puede comprender estas tensiones si se toman en cuenta las problemáticas existenciales internas de la persona que decide, como son la angustia y la desesperación en conjunto con las aportaciones de las teorías del comportamiento y la comunicación organizacional. The paper focuses on the relationship between nature and eth- ics, particularly by considering nature as a convention, the result of a so- cial agreement, which is based on the criterion of social utility. In order to analyse this relationship, my assumption takes into consideration three pathways: evolutionary ethics, with reference to Paul Rée; error theo- ry, with reference to John Mackie; and the concept of commodification, with reference to Ralph W. Emerson. I try to connect these perspectives in order (...) to re-define the concepts of judgment and objectivity, showing that both can be viewed as standard or criteria of evaluation according to specific context and needs. My final aim is to show that Emerson’s concept of commodification corroborates the interpretation of nature in relation with the concept of social utility. (shrink)

La conciencia falogocéntrica se funda en el a priori incondicional de carácter ético-metafísico que sostiene la criminalización universal del ser como efecto de una culpa o caída original. Nacer supone para esta conciencia un pecado y la realidad material representa para ella un lugar de exilio, extrañeza y alienación. Sin embargo, cuando uno retrocede sobre la protohistoria de la conciencia humana, sorprende la determinación de integridad y sacralidad que el pensamiento primitivo le atribuye a lo real. Para la conciencia primitiva, (...) la realidad nace en el parto de un seno infinito que la alimenta, cobija y bendice sus propios frutos. En lo que sigue, intentaremos remontarnos a la protohistoria de esta conciencia a fin de reconsiderar las condiciones de posibilidad de la inocencia metafísica y ética, o bien, el modo de ser de la inocencia original. The story of Abraham – and the divine command to sacrifice his son Isaac – is, as many of us know, the source of inspiration for some reflections of Kierkegaard in his work Fear and Trembling. From this episode, Johannes de Silentio, the pseudony- mous author of the work, who makes an ode to faith as the highest of the passions, also wonders about a problem that, according to his interpretation, seems central, i.e. the teleological suspension of morality. The objective (...) of this paper is to investigate, especially from the reflections of Kierkegaard, a possible interpretation for the teleological suspension of morality and in what circumstances such a thing does occur and where we can insert it in the ethical debates of philosophy of the nineteenth century. En el contexto en el cual la ideología de género e implícito lo femenino se ha vuelto un tema que preocupa, nos proponemos una reflexión sobre cómo deberíamos entender el papel de lo femenino en nuestra sociedad contemporánea, en relación al estudio de las vidas y las ideas de dos mujeres importantes para la cultura alemana de final de siglo XVIII e inicio del siglo XIX: Caroline Schlegel y Rahel Levin Varnhagen. Cuando hablamos de pensamiento femenino, tenemos que tener una (...) mirada retrospectiva y comprender muy bien cuál ha sido el aporte de las mujeres para nuestra cultura para así saber cuál tiene que ser la dirección de nuestros debates actuales sobre el mismo. El artículo se enfoca en resaltar la importancia de la formación y el cultivo de las capacidades espirituales de estas dos mujeres que lograron en su época volverse figuras muy respetadas y apreciadas por los grandes filósofos románticos, con la intención de transmitir que la “cuestión femenina” no se puede reducir a un asunto de meros derechos y política, sino que tiene que ver con la labor y la tarea que la mujer tiene de asumir las potencias de sus cualidades y usar su inteligencia para edificar nuestra cultura. After 41 years from the approval of the first living will law in 1976 in California, on December 22nd 2017 the bill on “Rules on in- formed consent and advance directives” has been approved in Italy. The applicability of the law highlights a lack of a univocal methodol- ogy regarding the recovery process of the patient’s subjective dimension under a testamentary will; so, it seemed useful to highlight the passages that occur between the drafting and the use of an advance (...) directive in an existential phenomenological prospective. Is the individual who freely drafts an A.D., choosing to decide now for the future, the same per- son for which the provisions were outlined? The goal of this paper is to offer an ethical reading of the ontological issue that illness can raises. (shrink)

This paper focuses on the concept of symbol and tries to outline its function as a means of communication. In order to describe the communicative qualities of symbol, it is necessary to show its ethical nature. The paper analyses the role symbols play in intersubjective relations, in the construction of the individual’s reality, and in the human ability to attribute meanings and assign functions.The conceptual frame- work for the understanding of what symbol is, how it works, and how it is (...) made is a particular combination of phenomenology and pragmatism, which lies on the theory of ‘appresentation’, as we can find it in Alfred Schütz’s viewpoint.
