    Withholding/withdrawing treatment from neonates: legislation and official guidelines across Europe.H. E. McHaffie, M. Cuttini, G. Brolz-Voit, L. Randag, R. Mousty, A. M. Duguet, B. Wennergren & P. Benciolini - 1999 - Journal of Medical Ethics 25 (6):440-446.
Representatives from eight European countries compared the legal, ethical and professional settings within which decision making for neonates takes place. When it comes to limiting treatment there is general agreement across all countries that overly aggressive treatment is to be discouraged. Nevertheless, strong emphasis has been placed on the need for compassionate care even where cure is not possible. Where a child will die irrespective of medical intervention, there is widespread acceptance of the practice of limiting aggressive treatment or alleviating (...)

Ethics committees for biomedical research in some African emerging countries: which establishment for which independence? A comparison with the USA and Canada.J. -P. Rwabihama, C. Girre & A. -M. Duguet - 2010 - Journal of Medical Ethics 36 (4):243-249.
Context The conduct of medical research led by Northern countries in developing countries raises ethical questions. The assessment of research protocols has to be twofold, with a first reading in the country of origin and a second one in the country where the research takes place. This reading should benefit from an independent local ethical review of protocols. Consequently, ethics committees for medical research are evolving in Africa. Objective To investigate the process of establishing ethics committees and their independence. Method (...)

    Identification of a non-linear model as a new method to detect expiratory airflow limitation in mechanically ventilated patients.S. Khirani, L. Biot, P. Lavagne, A. Duguet, T. Similowski & P. Baconnier - 2004 - Acta Biotheoretica 52 (4):241-254.
Expiratory flow limitation (EFL) can occur in mechanically ventilated patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and other disorders. It leads to dynamic hyperinflation with ensuing deleterious consequences. Detecting EFL is thus clinically relevant. Easily applicable methods however lack this detection being routinely made in intensive care. Using a simple mathematical model, we propose a new method to detect EFL that does not require any intervention or modification of the ongoing therapeutic. The model consists in a monoalveolar representation of the respiratory (...)
