The apodictic method and the dialogue between theology and science (I).Costea Munteanu & Fr Petre Comşa - 2021 - Journal of Philosophical Economics Volume XIV Issue-2 (Articles).
Many today’s scientists think that religion can never come to terms with science. In sharp contrast to the widespread opinion, the authors of this paper consider that historically scientific reasoning and religious belief joined hands in their effort to investigate and understand reality. In fact, the current divorce between science and religion is nothing else than the final outcome of a gradual long-term, and deliberately assumed process of science secularization of science. However, especially during the last decades, we have all (...)

An Interdisciplinary Perspective on the Relationship between Ethics and Today’s Capitalism.Petre Comsa & Costea Munteanu - 2015 - Annales. Ethics in Economic Life 18 (4):39-53.
The paper begins by emphasizing the fact that, on a historical scale, one can have several views of the relationship that has existed over time between ethics and capitalism, namely: missionary, ‘Nietzschean’, critical, and ‘regulatory’. It is argued that, nowadays, the capitalization of the contributions supplied, over time, by the four views embraces the form of two modern diametrically opposed perspectives, i.e.: on the one hand, there is the interpretation given by the neo-classical school of thought (mainstream economics) and, on (...)

The Triumph of Managerialism?: New Technologies of Government and Their Implications for Value.Bogdan Costea & Anna Yeatman (eds.) - 2018 - Rowman & Littlefield International.
This book brings management and organisational theory into dialogue with political thought and philosophy. It explains the allure of managerialism in relation to contemporary ethical and political perplexities and shows how managerialism displaces the question of authority and its relationship to politics, government and the professions.

The Worker – Dominion and Form.Laurence Hemming, Bogdan Costea & Ernst Jünger - 2017 - Evanston, IL, USA: Northwestern University Press.
Written in 1932, just before the fall of the Weimar Republic and on the eve of the Nazi accession to power, Ernst Jünger’s The Worker: Dominion and Form articulates a trenchant critique of bourgeois liberalism and seeks to identify the form characteristic of the modern age. Jünger’s analyses, written in critical dialogue with Marx, are inspired by a profound intuition of the movement of history and an insightful interpretation of Nietzsche’s philosophy. -/- Martin Heidegger considered Jünger “the only genuine follower (...)

Managerial Appropriations of the Ethos of Democratic Practice: Rating, ‘Policing’, and Performance Management.Kostas Amiridis & Bogdan Costea - 2020 - Journal of Business Ethics 164 (4):701-713.
This article examines how new types of performance appraisal reconfigure everyday personal relationships at work. These systems deploy smartphone technologies to be used continuously by individuals to rate each other. Our aim is to show, in concrete terms, how these practices claim to configure a democratic space where individuals are liberated to express their views about each other’s work. On the contrary, we argue that by being placed in continuous confrontation with each other’s ratings, the genuine space for democratic contestation, (...)

Eugenio Coseriu: Past, Present and Future.Klaas Willems & Cristinel Munteanu (eds.) - 2021 - De Gruyter.
The volume is published on the occasion of the birth centennial of Eugenio Coseriu (1921–2002). It is the first collective volume to appear in English in which various scholars present a variety of perspectives on Coseriu’s scholarly work and discuss its continuing relevance for the language sciences. Coseriu’s international reputation has suffered from his commitment to publish in languages such as Spanish, German, French, Italian, Romanian and Portuguese, to the detriment of English. As a consequence, his work is less well-known (...)

Graduate Employability and the Principle of Potentiality: An Aspect of the Ethics of HRM. [REVIEW]Bogdan Costea, Kostas Amiridis & Norman Crump - 2012 - Journal of Business Ethics 111 (1):25-36.
The recruitment of the next generation of workers is of central concern to contemporary HRM. This paper focuses on university campuses as a major site of this process, and particularly as a new domain in which HRM's ethical claims are configured, in which it sets and answers a range of ethical questions as it outlines the 'ethos' of the ideal future worker. At the heart of this ethos lies what we call the 'principle of potentiality'. This principle is explored through (...)

The Poetics in its Aristotelian Context.Pierre Destrée & Munteanu (eds.) - 2020 - Routledge.
This volume integrates aspects of the Poetics into the broader corpus of Aristotelian philosophy. It both deals with some old problems raised by the treatise, suggesting possible solutions through contextualization, and also identifies new ways in which poetic concepts could relate to Aristotelian philosophy. In the past, contextualization has most commonly been used by scholars in order to try to solve the meaning of difficult concepts in the Poetics. In this volume, rather than looking to explain a specific concept, the (...)

IDEAS in AGORA: Decision-Making Risk: The Difference Between Risk And Uncertainity In Economic Activities.Gabriela Munteanu & Nicoleta Vasilcovschi - 2014 - Human and Social Studies 3 (2):34-46.
Economic activities are always supposed to carry with them the risk of market. Our area of research is concerned with what is known as the model of risk decisions at the level of economic activity; a model that can be valuable at any point of economic development. In our research, we present important aspects of risk in taking decisions in the previous and current dynamics of the market. The conditions of taking decisions with potential risks provide decision-makers with the possibility (...)

  21. Timing Recognition: From Aristotle's Comments on the Iphigenia In Tauris to Gluck's Opera.Dana Munteanu - 2009 - Animus 13:50-59.
This essay examines Aristotle's discussion of the recognition scenes in Euripides' Iphigenia in Tauris and in Polyidus' alternative scenario. It suggests that Aristotle might show interest in Polyidus because he intuits the significance of the timing of the recognition scenes within the plot. Gluck's eighteen-century opera, Iphigénie en Tauride, maintains the general structure of Euripides' play but borrows Polyidus' recognition scene. The operatic recognition provides a clear dramatic frame to the brief references to Polyidus in the Poetics and facilitates an (...)

The involvement of governments and public institutions in entrepreneurial activity has grown considerably in the last years. Public governance has begun to pay more attention to the fact that, in order to achieve the goal of economic development in a country, it is necessary to increase entrepreneurship both qualitatively and quantitatively. Most governments have created significant actions that encouraged and supported the entrepreneurial activity and also they have contributed to supporting the private sector in the economy. The present paper analyses (...)
