Compliance with research ethics in epidemiological studies targeted to conflict-affected areas in Western Ethiopia: validity of informed consent (VIC) by information comprehension and voluntariness (ICV).Nicki Tiffin, Anja Bedeker, Michelle Nichols, Lami Bayisa, Eba Abdisa, Bizuneh Wakuma, Mekdes Yilma & Gemechu Tiruneh - 2024 - BMC Medical Ethics 25 (1):1-9.
BackgroundThe conduct of research is critical to advancing human health. However, there are issues of ethical concern specific to the design and conduct of research in conflict settings. Conflict-affected countries often lack strong platform to support technical guidance and monitoring of research ethics, which may lead to the use of divergent ethical standards some of which are poorly elaborated and loosely enforced. Despite the growing concern about ethical issues in research, there is a dearth of information about ethical compliance in (...)

    Eba Poon (Theocritus, Id. I. 139, 140).Henry W. Prescott - 1913 - Classical Quarterly 7 (03):176-.
The mystical part of Reitzenstein′s interpretation of the song in Theocritus′s first idyll has not been generally accepted;it is somewhat surprising to find a new interpretation of the legend of Daphnis, and a new explanation of the genesis of pastoral poetry, introduced by the statement, referring to Reitzenstein: ‘ Nicht zu kiihn war er, sondern noch nicht kiihn genug.’ Starting from Reitzenstein′s contention that the pastoral was developed from a cult-song, Fries elaborates the theory that Daphnis is a Greek Krishna; (...)

  8. Ethics-based auditing of automated decision-making systems: nature, scope, and limitations.Jakob Mökander, Jessica Morley, Mariarosaria Taddeo & Luciano Floridi - 2021 - Science and Engineering Ethics 27 (4):1–30.
Important decisions that impact humans lives, livelihoods, and the natural environment are increasingly being automated. Delegating tasks to so-called automated decision-making systems can improve efficiency and enable new solutions. However, these benefits are coupled with ethical challenges. For example, ADMS may produce discriminatory outcomes, violate individual privacy, and undermine human self-determination. New governance mechanisms are thus needed that help organisations design and deploy ADMS in ways that are ethical, while enabling society to reap the full economic and social benefits of (...)

Ethics-based auditing of automated decision-making systems: intervention points and policy implications.Jakob Mökander & Maria Axente - 2023 - AI and Society 38 (1):153-171.
Organisations increasingly use automated decision-making systems (ADMS) to inform decisions that affect humans and their environment. While the use of ADMS can improve the accuracy and efficiency of decision-making processes, it is also coupled with ethical challenges. Unfortunately, the governance mechanisms currently used to oversee human decision-making often fail when applied to ADMS. In previous work, we proposed that ethics-based auditing (EBA)—that is, a structured process by which ADMS are assessed for consistency with relevant principles or norms—can (a) help organisations (...)

  10. Věda jako „forma života“: kritérium demarkace jako praktický problém.Libor Benda - 2015 - Teorie Vědy / Theory of Science 37 (4):429-452.

    Aristotle’s Theory of Deduction and Paraconsistency.Evandro Luís Gomes & Itala M. Loffredo D'Ottaviano - 2010 - Principia: An International Journal of Epistemology 14 (1):71–97.
In the Organon Aristotle describes some deductive schemata in which inconsistencies do not entail the trivialization of the logical theory involved. This thesis is corroborated by three different theoretical topics by him discussed, which are presented in this paper. We analyse inference schema used by Aristotle in the Protrepticus and the method of indirect demonstration for categorical syllogisms. Both methods exemplify as Aristotle employs classical reductio ad absurdum strategies. Following, we discuss valid syllogisms from opposite premises (contrary and contradictory) studied (...)

  13. Život a práce alchymisty v obrazech.Magda Dostálová - 2015 - Teorie Vědy / Theory of Science 37 (1):51-76.
Poskytuje (...)

  14. Karl Popper a sepětí vědecké metody a demokracie.Pavel Doleček - 2012 - Teorie Vědy / Theory of Science 34 (4):439-467.

    Aristotle's Theory of Deduction and Paraconsistency.Evandro L. Gomes & Ítala M. L. D.?Ottaviano - 2010 - Principia: An International Journal of Epistemology 14 (1):71-97.

Casting Techniques in Minoan and Mycenaean Crete. I. The casting tools Studies on copper and bronze metallurgy in the prehistoric Aegean area generally focus on metal objects but neglect the bronzesmith tools : crucibles, molds and ventilation systems (“ tuyères”, bellows…). However, their study provides new information on both the technical processes of making a metal object and their evolution, and the existence of technical traditions and “ savoir-faire” of these bronzesmiths. The first part of this study is devoted to (...)
