The Value and Contribution of St. Thomas' Natural Law in Social Philosophy

Abstract

For the "natural" and "law" of these two concepts have a different understanding, it will produce a different understanding of natural law. These different understanding of natural law, are usually built on a different basis of metaphysics and epistemology. This paper has no intention of Thomas Aquinas's natural law position, and the philosophical systems of different argument positions, to show the social philosophy of Thomas Aquinas on the natural law of value and contribution. Because the kind of argument, often reduced to a talk past each other. This paper seeks to Thomas Aquinas on the natural law of text, objective and systematic discussion of Thomas Aquinas natural law, to explain Aquinas's discussion of natural law theory in the social philosophy of the meaning and value and contribution. In addition to the purpose of this paper and the paper describes the structure of the Introduction, the account has the following sections: I. Thomas Aquinas on the "law" of the background and his "law" of the definition. Second, natural law as a person of the highest ethical and legal norms. Third, the practice of general principles from specific commands to the inference process. Fourth, Thomas Aquinas's natural law and social philosophy. V. Conclusions. The differences in the interpretations of natural law, result from different understandings of "Natural" and "Law". These differences are usually coming from different grounds of metaphysics and epistemology. The intent of this article is not to debate with different philosophy systems to illustrate the accomplishments in the philosophy of social science by Thomas Aquinas, because it always turns into quarrelsome arguments.The purpose of this article is grounded on Thomas Aquinas Theory of Natural Law to demonstrate his invaluable contributions in social philosophy, through objective and systematic discussions.Beside the abstraction and the introduction: The article is composed of the following paragraphs: 1. The ground and definition of "Law" according to Thomas Aquinas. 2. Natural Law as the ultimate norm of ethics and morality. 3. The inference from the universal principle of practice to the realization of commands. 4. Thomas Aquinas Natural Law and his Philosophy of Social philosophy. 5. Conclusion
