This collective article discusses the philosophy of modern higher education in Iran, which in this case, optimistically, its history dates back to the founding of Dār al-fonūn —if we consider Dār al-fonūn as a university. Otherwise, its origin can be traced back to the University of Tehran. Central to this article is the emphasis on the lack of philosophy of higher education in Iran. Therefore, most of the criticisms in front of us are related to the internal inconsistency in the (...) Iranian higher education system due to the lack of a national-indigenized-official philosophy of higher education in Iran. Furthermore, The Islamic Revolution of 1979 brought about fundamental changes in higher education. Accordingly, several controversial issues including the rapid growth of higher education, the Islamization of universities, cultural narratives in higher education, the increase in students, especially women and the low-income class of the country were also explored. Therefore, in this collection, the political, economic, social, cultural, moral, technological and historical dimensions of Iranian higher education were examined. (shrink)

RésuméDans cet article, je soutiens que certains patients irrémédiablement dépressifs ont la capacité décisionnelle de consentir au traitement même s'ils veulent mourir. On dit que ces patients ont des déficits de capacité appréciative parce qu'ils manquent de compréhension quant à leur condition. Je soutiens que certains de ces patients acquièrent une telle compréhension s'ils peuvent connaître et articuler une gamme de possibilités futures concernant leur santé. Cet argument nécessite une lentille phénoménologique. La phénoménologie saisit quelque chose de fondamental au sujet (...) de la nature des conditions psychiatriques, comme l'expérience temporelle, qui est sans doute nécessaire pour une évaluation plus approfondie de la capacité requise pour recevoir l'aide médicale à mourir (AMM). In the past few years, the introduction and rapid acceptance of puberty suppression has transformed the clinical treatment of children diagnosed with Gender Identity Disorder. This essay analyzes the narratives used by some advocates of this treatment, particularly the elements of saving children from the looming disaster of puberty and from future abject lives of violence and suicide as transgender adults. It briefly addresses the potential implications of this account for the well being of the children brought under clinical purview.

Takfir is an accusation against someone as an infidel—those having different beliefs or expressing a different view or committing any acts of infidelity. Sentences or labels toward infidels vary and are accompanied by a fatwa from labeling the accused as ‘infidels’ to having the right to eradicate the infidels. This article discussed the development of the takfir doctrine which separates some groups not only based on theological aspects but also on socio-political aspects. Moreover, the expanding meaning of ‘infidel’ is also (...) accompanied by an obligatory, individual jihad to fight against internal enemies and external enemies. The expansion is even emphasized on any occasions on several hatred acts, such as hating infidels, which are propagandized to promote and establish Islamic laws. Specifically, this article discussed how Ayman al-Zawahiri expanded the doctrine into global acts framed in a modern way, such as secularism, capitalism, human rights, and environmental destruction, to attract local jihad groups to fight together in global spheres. Takfir is an ideology of excommunicating fellow Muslims because of having different beliefs or expressing a different point of view. This article deals with the development of the takfir doctrine which separates some groups not only based on theological aspects but also on socio-political aspects, such as justifying the democratic system or collaborating with enemies of Islam. It particularly addresses the question of how Ayman al-Zawahiri globalized the takfir doctrine as a campaign against secularism, capitalism, human rights, and environmental crisis, (...) in order to invite local jihadist groups to fight together in a global sphere.
