Genetic engineering has been a topic of discussion for over 50 years, but it is only recently that gene editing has become a reality. CRISPR biotechnologies have made gene editing much safer, precise and feasible. We have witnessed the first cases of human germline genetic modification resulting in live births, conducted by He Jiankui. In this paper, we will analyse He Jiankui’s case in relation to one of the most difficult problems in procreative ethics (or the ethics of future generations): (...) the non‐identity problem. We believe that this analysis will help us to understand the ethics involved in gene editing and hopefully allow for a better, more philosophically grounded legislation on CRISPR and other gene‐editing technologies. In this article I claim that the genetic revolution, that is, the advent of a series of highly transformative and disruptive genetic technologies, will happen in the coming years. Given the importance of this historical event, I argue that we must think in advance about the socio-ethical dynamics this revolution could entail. To do this, I first explore the ways in which this genetic revolution might unfold, and the socio-ethical problems it will face. El presente artículo aborda un problema de gran actualidad en la filosofía contemporánea: la comprensión del ser animal y sus relaciones con el ser humano. En concreto, se analizará el tratamiento de esta cuestión por parte del filósofo español Ortega y Gasset, uno de los primeros autores en convertir este asunto en un tema específico y recurrente de su reflexión. Se mostrará cómo la filosofía de Ortega arriba a este problema, qué influjos intelectuales marcan su aproximación al animal, y qué (...) lugar ocupa en el contexto de su propuesta filosófica. Concluiremos que, al igual que gran parte de los autores más relevantes del siglo XX, el pensamiento de Ortega está enormemente marcado por sus consideraciones sobre el animal; y que estas ideas todavía pueden ser provechosas a la hora de estudiar estos importantes problemas relacionados con el estatuto y significación de la condición animal. El presente artículo trata de exponer la fundamental tesis de Ortega “Yo soy yo y mi circunstancia, y si no la salvo a ella no me salvo yo”, mostrando sus distintas modulaciones a lo largo de su obra y su muchas veces desconocida evolución. De este modo, se hará patente la riqueza de la potente propuesta metafísica orteguiana, al tiempo que se gana claridad sobre la evolución biográfica de una de las figuras políticas españolas clave del siglo pasado.

El presente artículo realiza un recorrido a las complejas y cambiantes concepciones de Ortega y Gasset sobre teoría y práctica. Tras unos primeros años en los que la teoría aparece en una posición preponderante respecto de la práctica, en un segundo momento, a partir de la madurez orteguiana de los años 30 —y en especial después de su detenido tratamiento del problema de la técnica— la dimensión práctica pasará a ocupar este primer lugar. Resumen En este artículo se tratará de mostrar hasta qué punto y en qué sentido se puede considerar la filosofía orteguiana como una forma de antropología filosófica, explicando cómo su tratamiento de la técnica conforma el punto diferencial respecto del resto de propuestas de esta corriente. Para ello, expondremos algunas ideas del propio Ortega sobre el tema, contrastando su evolución intelectual con la del propio campo de la antropología filosófica; un campo cuya pro- blematicidad añade varios grados de dificultad a (...) este análisis. Concluiremos que la propuesta “antropo-técnica” orteguiana constituye, a la vez, un fiel reflejo de las discusiones de su tiempo -con Scheler y Heidegger a la cabeza-; pero, tam bién, una concepción única por su tratamiento específico de la técnica y el lugar que se le otorga a esta dimensión.In this article we will try to show to what extent and in what sense Orteguian philosophy can be considered a form of philosophical anthropology, explaining how its treatment of technology forms the differentialpoint with respect to the rest of the proposals of this current. To this end, we willpresent some of Ortega's own ideas on the subject, contrasting his intellectual evolution with that of the field ofphilosophical anthropology itself; a field whose problematic nature adds various degrees of difficulty to this analysis. We will conclude that Ortega's "anthropo- technical" proposal constitutes, at the same time, a faithful reflection of the discussions of his time -with Scheler and Heidegger at its lead-; but, also, a unique conception due to its specific treatment of technology and the place given to this dimension. Recent decades have seen a considerable and progressive increase in historical claims. Within the context of colonialism criticism, but also outside this sphere, numerous politicians, collectives and intellectuals have emerged to denounce certain acts of the past, demanding recognition and repentance that would compensate for these past affronts. In this article we will analyze one of these cases: the demand for an apology from Spain and the Vatican by the President of Mexico, López Obrador. Taking as a guide the debate (...) around the ethical problem of non-identity, we will see what ethical and metaphysical assumptions serve as the basis for these claims. We will also assess whether the claims of the so-called «historical victims» are consistent and ethically acceptable. (shrink)

The present paper tries to tackle the philosophical, ethical and social problem of posthumanism through an analysis of Michel Houellebecq´s novel The possibility of an island. We will defend that, when dealing with future and uncertain phenomena like posthumanism, literatura constituyes an extremely adequate tool. Through Houellebecq´s novel, we will reflect on posthumanist issues as body and immortality, the problem of the Other and human – posthuman relationships, as well as the peril of posthuman life turning out senseless and empty.
